Dr. Clara W.Y. WONG †
In Memory of Dr Clara WONG Wing-yee
Clinical Associate Professor (honorary), Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, CUHK, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on 26 February 2026. Dr. Wong joined the University in 2007 as Clinical Tutor (honorary) and was promoted to Clinical Assistant Professor (honorary) (2010-2014) and Clinical Associate Professor (honorary) (2014-2021). During 2021-2025, Dr. Wong served as Clinical Professional Consultant with an award of courtesy title of “Associate Professor of Practice in Orthopaedics & Traumatology”.
Dr. Wong received the Hong Kong College of Orthopaedic Surgeons (HKCOS) Sir Harry Fang Gold Medal Award in 2008 as recognition for her outstanding performance in the Joint Specialist Fellowship examination, as one of the 20 brilliant young Fellows who became the Gold Medalists since the establishment of this award in 1998.
Apart from being an excellent clinician, Dr. Wong also excelled in both teaching and community service. Dr. Wong received the Teacher of the Year Award, Faculty of Medicine, CUHK in 2021, a testimony demonstrating her excellence in teaching and that she is a well-loved teacher among our medical students. Dr. Wong’s selfless love is beyond geographical boundaries, she took part in voluntary works out of her busy schedule. To name but a few: Operation Concern (關懷行動) in Hunan, Xinjiang, Sichuan during 2002 – 2005 and 2012, Standtall (站起來), a rehabilitation program for Sichuan Earthquake evocated by the Chinese Speaking Orthopaedics Society in 2008, and Medecins Sans Frontières (無國界醫生) in Afghanistan and Haiti in 2015.
Dr. Wong’s contributions to excellence in clinical practice and medical education with her selfless love are deeply missed.
